But who are we (working for)?

About Us and the charity

We play video games for 48 hours straight so that you don’t have to!
But we also take donations to help out a new charity every year.

Who is behind all of this?

We are an online community and parody army with members worldwide. Toy Soldiers Unite started out in 2006 with the goal to make the world a better place. Now, many years later, our community and ambitions keep growing bigger constantly. We have various projects and events going on on a regular base to make people’s lives better and richer, and to bring more joy and fun into this world. This also includes lots of charity work. With the Gaming Marathon we are aiming to have a greater impact on our surroundings, to make a notable change.

What are the numbers?

In 2014, Engineer Airhead had a brilliant idea: Why not use the growing popularity of Game Streaming to support a good cause and spread fun worldwide? Quickly, he organised the first of a series of events, even though back then he wasn’t quite aware of it. That year, we collected 1001 USD for Child’s Play and we decided to aim even higher.
In 2015, we managed to collect 1565 USD for Alzheimer’s Society. Even though that was much more than the year before, we felt that we could do better!
In 2016, we moved to a total of 2100 USD for Enable. Only proving that we can indeed do better with the right amount of support!
In 2017, we dropped down to 1701 USD for Mind, and unfortunately did not manage to reach our goal. But this didn’t stop us from trying again!
And thus came 2018, our 5th year anniversary! Collecting 1715 USD for The Brain and Behaviour research foundation!

Every year we try to aim even higher. By contacting more sponsors, poking more streamers and providing more fun to the viewers!

Who is this year’s charity and what do they do?

This year’s charity: The World Resources Institute.

The WRI focuses on the intersection of the environment and socio-economic development. They work with governments, business, and civil society to build solutions — going beyond research.

WRI’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.

We focus on seven urgent global challenges that must be addressed to reduce poverty, grow economies and protect natural systems:

  1. Climate: Protect communities and natural ecosystems from damage caused by greenhouse gas emissions, and generate opportunities for people by catalyzing a global transition to a low-carbon economy.
  2. Energy: Drive the scale-up of clean, affordable power systems throughout the world to deliver sustainable socio-economic development.
  3. Food: Ensure the world’s food systems reduce their impact on the environment, drive economic opportunity, and sustainably feed 9.6 billion people by 2050.
  4. Forests: Alleviate poverty, enhance food security, conserve biodiversity, and mitigate climate change by reducing forest loss and restoring productivity to degraded, deforested lands.
  5. Water: Achieve a water-secure future by mapping, measuring, and mitigating global water risks.
  6. Sustainable Cities: Improve quality of life in cities by developing and scaling environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable urban and transport solutions.
  7. The Ocean: We are charting the path for a New Ocean Economy that is good for jobs, economic growth and human health — while protecting and restoring the ocean.
